An Iron Age and a Dark Age in Tamil Nadu
Mass deaths of the IUCN Vulnerable Olive Ridley Turtles, which have long suffered at the hands of industrial fishing, have rocked the Coromandel Coast again. As most of the carcasses washing ashore are suspected to have drowned to death, all fingers are now pointing at trawlers, decimating areas of congregation where the turtles gather to mate. Banning of bottom trawling is a lesson India is regrettably yet to learn and apply, from its neighbour and bitter fishing industry rival, Sri Lanka.
