India has a new mammal; that’s right- a NEW MAMMAL, in 2025! Meet the Himalayan Long-tailed Myotis, an insectivorous bat that resides in the montane forests!
Interestingly, three of the researchers behind this discovery (Ruedi, Saikia and Csorba), also discovered the last mammal to have been described from India, the Meghalaya Thick-thumbed Bat . The fourth researcher happens to be my brother, chiropterologist Dr. Rohit Chakravarty!
