Juhu's Pygmy Eel-Loach
Pangio juhuae, a new subterranean fish discovered from a well in Naduvannur, Kerala. What sets the discovery apart is that it was made by a four year old girl Dhanvi ‘Juhu’ Dheera from a backyard well, after whom ichthyologists from the Fisheries Survey of India have chosen to name the species!
Many subterranean fish have dominated new discoveries in India lately, with one having been named after the snack Bhujia, and another one after Mumbai’s eponymous deity Mumba Devi.
