India has 7 species of Softshell Turtles, all of which you can spot on this poster!
My friend and herpetologist Ayushi Jain studies one of the rarest softshell turtle species, the Cantor’s Giant Softshell, in Kasargod, Kerala. Her work was recently featured in a film by Bahar Dutt for Roundglass Sustain. Earlier, Ayushi and I teamed up to create a Cantor’s Giant Softshell Turtle mascot on the occasion of Onam, who we call Bheemanama (the local name for the species):
