Trophy Hunting in Sweden
After having lynxes, wolves and moose as its targets, Sweden now has issued permits to take down 20% of its Brown Bear population, through trophy hunting licenses masquerading as culling licenses. Sweden, a self-proclaimed leader in sustainability, has a history of having trophy-hunting lobbysists among its environment and rural ministries. This probably wouldn’t come across as a surprise in a far-right uncle-run government, but with young, dynamic liberals like Romina Pourmokhtari in charge of the environment ministry, this does come as a shock, and certainly makes one question if the European Federation for Hunting strong-arms environment ministries.
