A citizen science project in Pune, and subsequent genetic sequencing, unearthed the first genetic evidence of wolf-dog hybrids in Maharashtra, not only roaming free but also assimilated within wolf packs. Already threatened by habitat loss, hybridization places the endangered Indian Wolf at a greater risk now.
